PRODUCTS

Discera products are made exclusively in a CMOS silicon process, are much smaller, use less power, and are lower cost than traditional crystal based technologies.

Discera’s technology also competes with the performance of traditional single frequency Quartz crystal based devices.

PRODUCT OVERVIEW

Discera’s unique CMOS compatible PureSilicon Resonator™ technology uses silicon material for its mechanical properties instead of its electrical properties producing resonator devices that are orders of magnitude smaller, more stable, and power effective compared with current technology. PureSilicon Resonators also benefit from the worldwide installed base of low-cost CMOS fabrication facilities and well established CMOS manufacturing techniques.

Discera’s technology is the culmination of several years of major developments conducted by world renowned founder Dr. Clark Nguyen, Dr. Wan-Thai Hsu, and other Discera employees. Discera’s wide-ranging and proprietary IP covers innovative resonator devices structures, manufacturing and packaging techniques, ultra stable oscillators, and revolutionary RF architectures. Discera components are fabricated using a CMOS compatible manufacturing process combined with a proprietary packaging and chip finishing technology to deliver the world’s smallest packaged resonator-based silicon components.

The company’s patented circuit design techniques revolutionize the way frequency control devices are created and enable the fabrication of pure silicon electronic products significantly reducing the need for non-silicon devices such as Quartz crystals, Ceramic, SAW and FBAR devices.

Discera’s existing range of products includes a miniaturized clock, PLL, and other frequency synthesizers for highly integrated, multi-function systems and applications. The Company uniquely addresses the miniaturization and integration requirements of RF, clock, and timing applications used in digital consumer and mobile products such as multi-band cellular radios, cameras, MP3 players, automotive, military, mini disk drives, TV players, and more. Emerging medical automotive, military, space, and other applications with rigid environment requirements can also benefit from Discera’s very small and robust products.

PRODUCT FEATURES

Discera is proud to present our MOS1 product, an industry-leading oscillator that combines state-of-the-art CMOS circuit technology with industry-leading silicon CMOS-compatible MEMS resonator technology. This product combines the best attributes of silicon processing (proven CMOS manufacturing processes, low cost, low power and high reliability) with the outstanding temperature stability and exceptional standby current consumption of Discera's leading-edge MEMS technology. The MOS1 oscillator product family offers industry standard footprints and a very wide frequency range of 1-125MHz in four product ranges, 1-10MHz, 10-40MHz, 40-80MHz and 80-125MHz.

Additionally, another feature of the MOS1 product is its very low current consumption. At the highest frequency range of 125MHz, the MOS1 current consumption is typically about 11mA and at a commonly-used frequency of 27MHz the typical current consumption is about 4.5mA. However, beyond the stellar operating current consumption, the MOS1 product family standby current consumption is even more noteworthy: all family members feature a standby current consumption of less than 1μA. This provides for exceptional battery life in handheld consumer electronic applications.

A very important attribute of Discera's MEMS technology is the scalability: unlike traditional piezoelectric-based oscillators, Discera's oscillators offer customers year-on-year cost reductions typical of semiconductor products. This provides not only low cost for oscillator products in industry-standard surface-mount footprints today, but allows end-users to reap the benefit of downstream cost reductions. Discera's MOS1 oscillator family is offered now in tiny industry-standard 5.0mm x 3.2mm plastic packages with a thickness of less than 0.9mm, suitable for the most demanding handheld consumer electronic products. Additionally, Discera's technology provides the ability for the MOS family to scale into smaller, emerging footprints such as 2.5mm x 2.0mm and 2.0mm x 1.6mm very rapidly. Due to Discera’s unique packaging process, the MOS1 product family can offer high Q products in industry-standard plastic packages, providing excellent reliability and low cost.

An unusual feature of the Discera MOS1 oscillator is its stability over environmental conditions. The MOS1 product family is offered in three industry-standard temperature ranges: 0°C to +70°C, -20°C to +70°C and -40°C to +85°C. The product is specified over the normal industry-standard shock (5000g, 0.3ms, ½ sine) and vibration (20g, 10-2000Hz) levels, but has also been successfully tested to extreme conditions of 30,000g shock.
